Birthday Binge *cat with a tummy full of cream smile*

And so another year passed into the annals of history. Nothing too major. Another day, another milestone. I still suspect somewhere deep within my mind I am still trying to piece together the old experiences while the new ones are coming at me face first. So I end up dropping half the pieces, scrambling to keep the new ones from scattering.

Thursday evening found us at Asha’s (Ashas Restaurants) at the Wafi Pyramids. Groupon in hand, we sashayed in gleefully not really knowing what to expect. Eyes bulging at the price list (6 pakoras in the vicinity of AED 40+), but we decided to live it up and ordered away.

The darn pakoras were an experience unto themselves. They were well sized, and crumbly. The distinct flavors were very much evident, crunchy onions, soft potatoes and a sprinkling of some yummy chat masala type spices. With the mango and mint-yoghurt chutneys at our disposal, I think we were practically full before the main course ever arrived on the table. And even the little one enjoyed munching on the poppadums and pakoras :) The big one fell asleep on the nice sofa bench & comfy cushions lol..

After that I was kind of numb, still swimming in the euphoria brought on by a well-made pakora. The malai chicken kebab was next (I think). I forget the names now but I think that was it. Aha.. yes indeed Ashas UK Menu - but thats good enough :) . Not the exact same as the Dubai menu but close enough. So  the Chicken Malai Kebab was “boneless chicken marinated in cashew nut paste, yoghurt, cheese & cream” and it was divine. You could taste all the different strains of the ingredients… like a musical symphony… laaalaaalalalalalaalaaaaaaaa… you get my drift.

One of the currys was the chicken one, with a funky name, I wish I could remember. It was one of the something-puris or the something-hanis.. :) white but again bursting with flavor.

And of course there was the chicken biryani.. our standard staple at any dinner out.

The lassi that we ordered was also really perfect. Not heavy at all. Not too sweet. And very very refreshing. And the gulab jaman’s we rounded off the dinner with were sweet little dumplings of joy :) yayyy..

All in all it was a great way to spend a birthday. :) and they even brought us a small chocolate pastry/moussy concoction with happy birthday written on the serving plate in chocolate and a candle lol…

Lovely… & yummy :) Tummy’s fairly happy!

The Shakespeare Experience

its sad :) i should've taken a picture. but i will next time. promise. so todays gastronomical journey took tummy dearest to one of my favorite places... Shakespeare & Co at Al Safa.

ordered the yummylicious English breakfast with the orange juice and english breakfast tea combo. thoroughly enjoyed the toast laden with melting butter and dripping marmalade. its funny. i didnt like the slightly bitter taste of marmalade when i was younger but now i do. it reminds me of abu. :) he loved the stuff.

my omelette was tomatoes, onions, green chillies and cheese and loverly. sometimes they end up a bit on the dry overly cooked side but today it was good. next time i'll ask them to add crushed red pepper to the omelette like my nano used to make it :) she even ate her fried eggs with red pepper instead of black lol :) its an experience. everyone should try that once.

the lunch was rounded off with a nice steaming hot chocolate fondant (the molten lava cake version) with lovely icecream. its awe-fome. seriously!

best part is the kids room. they sat there on the beanies and the cute  little table. and all the mess (and there WAS a mess!) was contained therein while i munched away in delirious peace.
and that was that.

late afternoon found some hummous and leftover pitas in the off-lounge so munched a bit with some lipton Cinnamon tea. relax-zing.

so thats me :) all happy for the day..

cheerios
